The 14 skills and behaviors that promote learning on the kindergarten report card are teachable skills. Teachers and families can help children learn these skills when they understand what they are, why they are important, and how they can help children learn them. It can be helpful to think of these skills as Me Skills and We Skills. Me Skills help children manage themselves, like completing work on time. We Skills help children manage interactions with other people, like handling conflict appropriately.

Families and teachers working together is key to a child Conquering Kindergarten. When a child’s family and teacher ENGAGE with each other, they can help the student learn the skills they need to positively ENGAGE in the classroom. When a child learns these skills early in life, they become ready to successfully ENGAGE in their community and beyond.

These 14 skills help children Conquer Kindergarten and EXCEL in school and life. These skills assist kindergarteners who are working hard to learn their ABCs and 123s, and they support future academic achievement, healthy relationships, and career success.
